Central Wyoming Counseling Center has announced that they are a partnering sponsor of the upcoming Meth and Substance Abuse Conference April 11-12 at the Ramkota Hotel in Casper.
CWCC says that arrests related to methamphetamine use have increased three-fold since 2012, and methamphetamine continues to be one of the primary drugs of choice for individuals at Central’s residential treatment facility.
The 15th annual Meth and Substance Abuse Conference features speakers with diverse experience battling meth use ranging from law enforcement to mental health professionals to former users. These speakers each bring their perspective to the fight, which fosters collaboration and networking among attendees.
“Obviously addiction is damaging to the people who are using, and of course to the friends and family who care for them,” says CWCC Development Coordinator Kyle Gamroth. “But it’s actually detrimental to society as whole as well. The fiscal costs of drug abuse are enormous when you consider related social services, incarceration, disease transmission, and emergency room visits.
The Wyoming Meth Project, infamous for its “Not Even Once” campaign, dissolved last year due to lack of funding. Officials with CWCC say that, as a result, events like the Meth Conference are even more important in the fight against substance use.
For those interested in attending the conference, the Casper Police Department says that registration can be done through the website EventBrite.
