Casper Fire-EMS has released information about a garage fire that was reported last night, Friday, April 13th, 2018.

According to a release from fire officials, at approximately 8:00 pm Casper Fire-EMS units were called for a reported structure fire on the 1100 block of East 5th Street.

Initial reports stated that a detached garage was engulfed in flames; the garage was near a home and the occupants were evacuating.

Upon arrival, firefighters say they found an ATV inside the garage that was on fire; there was also a significant amount of gasoline burning on the floor of the structure. The fire was quickly extinguished preventing further damage.

All occupants were outside of the structures upon CFD arrival and no injuries were reported.

Some possessions inside the garage were destroyed, but the structure was minimally affected.

Six CFD units responded to this incident, most of which were able to return to their normal service areas immediately after the fire was extinguished.

One engine and the ladder truck remained on scene while the investigation evidence was collected. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Casper Fire-EMS Department would shared the following safety message, in a release sent to media Saturday morning:

“In general, garage fires spread farther and cause more injuries and dollar loss than fires that start in all other areas of the home. Keep your home safe by following a few easy steps:

  • Store oil, gasoline, paints and other flammable liquids in a shed away from your home

  • Keep items that can burn on shelves away from any appliances

  • Plug only one charging appliance into each outlet

  • Do not use extension cords when charging appliances”
