CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Wyoming schools can begin administering the state’s new statewide student assessment beginning Monday.
Wyoming students in grade 3-10 will be taking the first Wyoming Test of Proficiency and Progress, or WY-TOPP. The new assessment replaces the PAWS test.
Specifically, students in grade 3-10 will be assessed in English language arts and math, students in grades 4, 8, and 10 will also be assessed in science, and students in grades 3, 5, 7, and 9 will be assessed in writing.
One big change is that the new test will be done with an online, computer-adaptive format instead of the paper-and-pencil, multiple-choice-only format.
Results from the assessment will be used to help evaluate school performance. Individual student results are provided to parents but have no direct effect on student grades.
