BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho Health officials are investigating an outbreak of E. coli infections that are linked to a national outbreak affecting at least 11 states, including in Idaho.

The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare says eight Idaho residents became infected after they say they ate romaine lettuce in the 10 days prior.

Of the eight infected, three people were hospitalized and two have developed kidney failure. All hospitalized people were adults between the ages of 20 and 55.

The department says no deaths have been linked to the outbreak.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention says a total of 35 cases nationwide have been linked to the outbreak as of Friday.

E. coli is a type of bacteria that can cause bloody diarrhea, severe abdominal cramps, vomiting and low-grade fever.
