A groundbreaking ceremony was held for the new Masterson Place on Monday morning in Casper.
The new hospitality home will cost $4.8 million dollars, which was raised through private donations and fundraising by the Wyoming Medical Center Foundation.
The two-story building will be “almost like a hotel” according to Caryn Dowell, Executive Director of the Wyoming Medical Center Foundation.
“It will have 14 guest rooms and laundry facility, and a two-sided fireplace in the lobby where guests can visit,” said Dowell. The rooms will be equipped for long-term stays if necessary, with kitchen and cooking supplies. The cost of a room will be $45 per night, significantly less expensive than an equivalent hotel.
The new facility will replace the current Masterson Place located on W. Yellowstone in a former Best Western motel. The sale of that building is underway, according to Dowell. The foundation has a contingency plan with another hotel for temporary hospitality rooms if the sale takes place before the new building is open.
The target date for the new Masterson Place is June 20, 2019, according to Dowell. It will be built on land formally occupied by aging small houses, which were used for hospital storage and temporary student housing before being demolished last year.
