Late Sunday night, Casper residents awoke to the sound of construction near the McKinley Street bridge and I25.

The loud sound was the result of hydro blasting at the construction site to break up the old concete on the bridge deck, according to Jeff Goetz, the Public Relations Specialist for the Wyoming Department of Transportation. He explains that the contractor didn’t know it would be so loud, as the steel bridge beams amplified the noise.

The hyrdo blasting on the McKinley Street bridge will be completed by 10pm Monday night, Goetz says.

Starting tonight, the same work will begin on the Center Street bridge. The underpass will be closed 6pm to 6am Monday and Tuesday. The construction crews will hydro blast until midnight each night if needed, according to Goetz.

As for the continued construction, residents can rest easy. “There will be work going on throughout these next couple of nights, but it shouldn’t be as loud as last night,” he says.
