
The Natrona County Fire District says that they responded to a wildfire outside the community of Wheatland over the weekend.
According to a statement released on social media, the NCFD’s “Brush 7-4,” comprised of three fire fighters responded to the scene over the weekend.
A statement from the Torrington Volunteer Fire Department said that they and other area fire departments had also responded, including equipment and firefighters from the communities of Hawk Springs, Jay Em, LaGrange, and Yoder.
NCFD officials say that the fire has been dubbed the “Britania Fire” and had burned approximately 5,800 acres, as of Sunday evening, August 27th. The statement went on to say that the fire was being fueled by high Wyoming winds.
The Fire District, as well as Oil City readers, reported that the fire and smoke was visible from I-25.
The Torrington Volunteer Fire Department updated their social media during the early morning hours on Monday, August 27th. According to Torrington officials, operations are “expected to continue through tomorrow.”
“A Type III Incident Management Team has been ordered from western Wyoming and will transition into command roles tomorrow morning,” the Torrington Department wrote on Facebook, Monday morning.
Fire officials ask residents and travelers to please stay clear of the Fletcher Park area, west of Wheatland.
The cause of the fire has not been released.
NCFD officials say that more information on the fire will be released as it becomes available.
